With smart meters, consumers have the ability to take advantage of time-of-use pricing plans, where electricity charges vary based on the time of day. Research indicates that households enrolled in time-of-use pricing programs can save between 5% and 15% on their electricity bills by shifting energy usage to off-peak hours.
